National Assembly inaugurates new website

A new website,on
the National Assembly was inaugurated at the Abuja office of the British
Council on Monday, March 22, 2004.
Dubbed www.nigeriacongress.org,the
new website was provided by the West African Non-Governmental Organisation
Network (WANGONeT).
Funded by
the Department for International Development (DFID) under the Nigeria
Governance Fund, the project was supervised by the British Council.
According
to the Chief Technical Officer of WANGONeT, Mr. Wale Akin-Aina, “the
Nigeria Congress Online parades a fusion of all issues of interest relating
to and impacting on all aspects of governance, most especially on the
legislature.”
There are also issues
on the Presidency; state and local government administration and the judiciary.
"It serves as
an interactive forum for interface between the Federal Government and
other stakeholders of democracy.
"Other objectives
of the site are the promotion and sustenance of democracy; promotion of
transparency in government; facilitation of awareness and interaction
between the government and the people.
"It will also
serve as a repository of knowledge and parliamentary data as well as to
encourage basic constitutional, human rights and freedom," he said.
